This summer camp was yet again an enlightening experience. For the purposes of this blog, I will focus in on the 3 hours each day I spent teaching kids how to make various balloon creations. Through the story, I myself have found a renewed creativity for making crazy balloon animals. These campers have inspired me to make more ornate balloon creations.
After the first hour and a half, the kids would have learned two or three new balloon animals for the day including dogs, flower bracelets, tiaras, and battle-axes among other items. In the remaining time, the kids were allowed to make anything they wanted. Of course, if they needed help the counselors would help them.
The way this worked is that the kids would want to make some crazy balloon figure, and they somehow knew exactly how to since their creativity at that age was crazy high. The thing they had trouble at was the thing I was good at. Actually twisting and handling the balloon. So with their creativity and my experience, the kids could make incredibly cool looking items which didn’t even have names.
The reason I am so excited about this is that in future parties, I look forward to using this new creative mindset to give the kids exactly what they want which may be huge, beautiful, or CRAZY!
